Controller

The Position:

JazzHR is looking for an experienced hands-on Controller with a demonstrated history of enabling success at a high growth startup to lead the accounting and finance function. This role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting, including AP, AR, and financial reporting, as well as audit, tax, and compliance. In addition to leading the month-end close process, the Controller will partner with the CFO to design and implement process and system improvements, and support the CFO in financial planning and analysis. As the Controller will be working with the business to identify and solve problems, they must be cross-functionally collaborative and able to both think strategically and dive into details.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading all aspects of the accounting function including controls, financial reporting, audits, revenue recognition, billing & collections, payroll, accounts payable, cash management, taxes, and stock option accounting
  • Managing the monthly accounting close, utilizing automation and process efficiency to shorten and improve the close cycle
  • Providing accurate and comprehensive financial information to executive management for day-to-day business operations and long-term financial planning.
  • Preparing financial analyses for inclusion in materials for the Board of Directors
  • Monitoring technical accounting matters, keeping abreast of new pronouncements and guidance, and leading the implementation of new accounting requirements (ASC 606)
  • Coordinating and serving as the primary contact with banks, credit line providers, accountants, auditors, and other financial vendors
  • Reviewing all financial contracts, financing agreements, and business insurance policies.
  • Driving productivity, continuous process improvement, and transformation in the accounting function to deliver greater efficiency and effectiveness and improved service to customers, vendors and employees
  • Assisting in managing the budget and forecasting process

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting; CPA preferred
  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Excellent technical accounting skills
  • Strong proficiency in revenue recognition under ASC 606
  • Advanced quantitative skills with a passion for using data to drive better decision-making
  • Demonstrated success collaborating with business stakeholders and an ability to continuously improve processes and develop efficiencies
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial software applications
  • Experience with Salesforce.com and integrations across multiple systems a plus
  • Comfort and experience with working in a startup organization, multi-tasking, learning quickly, problem-solving and rolling up your sleeves to get things done
  • Strong business judgment, integrity, work ethic and ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with different people and personalities

This key position is based in Waltham, MA, and requires candidates to be able to work from our Waltham office.
